How to start a career in Science Policy?
We have rules and regulations for everything.
Similarly, there are also set policies, and framework guidelines for allocating the resources for the conduct of science to best serve the public interest.
Science covers the questions at the heart of society's problems.
So, it is indeed useful that these policies should solve a big societal problem.
Now here comes the question, how many of us know
What are those policies?
What do these policies contain?
Who drafts them?
Who approves them?
How can one contribute towards making a better policymaking decision?
These questions bogged us, so we decided to do one minicourse specifically for science policy.
After all, together, we explore, and together we expand our knowledge base.
This mini-course covers the following aspects.
What is Science Policy? - This is where we discuss the basics of science policy and the role of science policy experts
What are the peripherals of Science policy-making? - We will expand the peripherals of science policymaking, such as science diplomacy, advocacy, and the structural framework of ideal science policymaking.
Why is Science policy important for society? - Here, we discuss what challenges are put forth through our societal problems which demand the implementation of science policymaking. We also quote examples from the past where implementing a science policy solved some societal problems.
How to get your foot into the door? - While all was said and done, we tried to connect the bridge between a nomad and the science policy-making offices by suggesting various places where one can start and build their knowledge base for it.
Where to find opportunities to get started in science policy? Part I - Towards the end, we have tried to list many science policy places where one can venture their journey by looking up opportunities or witnessing others’ journeys. Either way, we learn. This is the exhaustive list for India.
Where to find opportunities to get started in science policy? Part II - Wait, it isn’t over! We also have something for our international readers too. There are great opportunities and places to learn the insides of science policymaking. Do check them out!
Well, that’s it for now!!!
