Salary Benchmarking Survey for SciComm in India
As science communicators working in India, we have often observed or experienced the lack of standardised benchmarked salaries in this field. We believe that an anonymous survey regarding salaries could be a starting point to address this issue. We request your participation, as your contribution brings us one step closer to building a more transparent and equitable science communication ecosystem in India.
This survey has been created as a result of discussions on the ‘SciComm India Hub’ WhatsApp Community and is facilitated by Nandita Jayaraj, Nishtha Bhargava, Shruti Sundaresan and Debdutta Paul, with inputs from others.

Conseil européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire (CERN), also known as the European Organization for Nuclear Research, is a world-renowned scientific exploration centre located near Geneva, Switzerland. It is known for its advanced particle accelerators, where scientists study the fundamental building blocks of the universe.
CERN operates on the principle of global collaboration, bringing together researchers from around the world to foster a culture of scientific exchange and open communication. This unique approach to scientific investigation makes CERN a remarkable example of science communication. Sharing discoveries, disseminating knowledge, and engaging with the public, CERN demystifies complex scientific concepts and inspires curiosity and wonder about the mysteries of the cosmos.
Day 1: Public Lectures
CERN is at the frontier of particle physics research. By sharing their breakthroughs and developments in detail through public lectures, they manage to keep international audiences in the loop.
Day 2: Exhibits
Science exhibits are the bread and butter of any scientific organization as large as CERN. Interactive exhibits help them demystify complex scientific concepts and inspire the next generation of scientists.
Day 3: Social Media
Having a solid social media presence allows CERN to directly reach audiences they would never have otherwise.
Day 4: Educational Resources
CERN creates recourses for both students and teachers alike to help them develop tools to understand science in general and their research in particular.
Day 5: Science Journalism
CERN uses science journalism and the media relations they have built up over the years to expand its network and reach by utilizing that of international, national, and local news outlets.
Day 6: Virtual Visits
CERN aims to make their facilities and base of operations a bit more accessible and open to the public through virtual tours and visits.
