Building Bridges and Opening Doors: Practicing Inclusive Science Communication - Day 1 (Free)
🥺Have you ever struggled to understand a scientific concept because of the language used to explain it? Or maybe you've felt excluded from scientific discussions because of your background or level of education. Unfortunately, these are common experiences for many people, and they highlight the importance of inclusive science communication.
Inclusive science communication is about making science accessible and engaging to everyone, regardless of their background or level of education. By prioritizing inclusivity in our communication, we can build bridges between science and the public and help to ensure that scientific knowledge is shared and used to benefit everyone.
In this course, we'll explore how to communicate science effectively in a way that is inclusive and accessible to diverse audiences. Over six days, we'll cover a range of topics related to inclusive science communication, from language and terminology to cultural awareness and difficult conversations.
Day 1: Understanding Inclusive Science Communication
Science affects everyone, and it's important that everyone has access to scientific knowledge.
Day 2: Language and Terminology
Language is a potent instrument for communication, but when it's not used properly, it may also act as a barrier.
Day 3: Nonverbal Communication
Research suggests that 70 to 93% of all communication can be nonverbal, depending on the context and culture.
Day 4: Cultural Awareness
Cultural awareness is an ongoing process that requires humility, empathy, and a willingness to learn.

Difficult conversations can arise for a variety of reasons, from differences in opinion to deeply ingrained biases or misunderstandings.
Day 6: Action Planning
It involves setting clear goals, identifying potential challenges or obstacles, and developing a plan of action that includes specific steps, timelines, and measures of success.
By the end of this course, you'll have the skills and knowledge to communicate science in a way that is accessible, inclusive, and engaging to a wide range of audiences. So join us, and let's start building bridges 🌉 and opening doors to science 🚪!
